Policing Problems

The "sheer size and scope of the Internet" (Jewkes 16) makes it virtually impossible to establish an international law enforcement agency that could go after every criminal inquiry. One organization, such as the FBI, cannot cover all levels and types of Internet crime. Likewise, not all roads in the world can be patrolled by police. The Internet is still very new and laws are still being written on how to deal with online crime. Even though there are laws that can be applied to Internet crimes, "only 10 per cent of computer-related crime is reported and fewer than 2 per cent of cases result in a successful prosecution" (Jewkes 16).
